HUMBOLDT — A man wanted on warrants in Neosho and Wilson counties led law enforcement officers on an extended chase north of Humboldt late Friday afternoon, before escaping by apparently crossing the Neosho River.
Brian Dillow, a Humboldt officer, had reason to think that Jason Kee might be at a Humboldt residence.
When he went to check, Kee and another man, Andrew Lewellen, came out and got in a car. When they started to drive away, Dillow attempted to stop the car, which sped north on Ninth Street and out of town.
At Illinois Road, about a mile and a half north of Humboldt, the car turned west. Shortly thereafter the men jumped from the car.
Kee ran into nearby timber bordering the river. Lewellen was arrested and later charged with obstruction.
“We hunted about two and a half hours but never found Kee,” said Bryan Murphy, Allen County undersheriff.
Aiding in the search were Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and a tracking dog brought to the area by Woodson County officers.
