MORAN — The press box at Marmaton Valley High School’s football field was destroyed by fire Thursday evening.
Nevertheless, crews were able to restore electricity to the lights and scoreboard, allowing the school to host Sedan in a Friday evening football game.
The cause remains under investigation, Principal Kim Ensminger said.
The fire appeared to start at the bottom of the structure, where track and field equipment are stored, Ensminger said, then spread to the top, where the announcers, scoreboard operators and assistant coaches are stationed during games.
All of the track and field equipment was destroyed.
The fire did no visible damage to the new aluminum bleachers, installed at the start of the football season.
After this week’s game, the Wildcats’ next home game is Oct. 13 against St. Paul.
