The deadline to file for April 7’s city and school elections is three weeks from today, Jan. 27.
In Iola, incumbents Jonathan Wells, First Ward, and Eugene Myrick, Third Ward, have filed for re-election. Other Iola councilmen whose four-year terms expire this year are Bob Shaughnessy, Second Ward, and Steve French, Fourth Ward. Terms of four of eight Iola council members expire every two years. French told the Register at a special council meeting Monday he was leaning toward running again. Shaughnessy was not at the meeting and thus was unavailable for comment.
Seeking re-election to the Gas Council are George Grisier and Larry Robertson. Jane Burns announced she would not be a candidate for re-election.
The only other person to file to date is Kris Smith, who will stand for re-election to position 7 on the USD 256 (Moran-Elsmore) Board of Education.
Iola and Humboldt candidates must file with their city clerks; all other city candidates may file either with a city clerk or at the Allen County clerk’s office. All Allen Community College, school board and Southwind Extension District board candidates must file in the county clerk’s office. Cost is $10 for Iola council members, $5 for all others.
If a primary election is required, it will be March 3.

Gas: George Grisier, Larry Robertson, Mary Jane Burns.
Humboldt: Mayor Nobby Davis; council members Wayne Smith, First Ward, position 1, Jo Ann Evans, First Ward, position 2, Vada Aikins, Second Ward, position 1, Sunny G. Shreeve, Second Ward, position 2.
