Duane McGraw’s willingness to be involved in community service earned him the Southeast Kansas Future Farmers of America’s Outstanding Service Award for 2012.
The award is made annually to those who contribute either their time or resources to the development of FFA members.
McGraw was recognized for assistance he gave Allen County Aggie Days at Allen Community College the past two years by providing plants for students to identify in the horticulture portion of the contest.
“We took out 65 plants this year, including 25 that Savannah Flory at TLC in LaHarpe made available,” McGraw said.
Perennials for the contest came from TLC, annuals and house and tropical plants from Duane’s Flowers. McGraw also put together two floral arrangements that were part of the contest.
McGraw’s service has made a great impact on students interested in horticulture, said Jacob Larison, SEK FFA adviser and instructor at Riverton.
