Ottaway Amusements offered several rides, including The Viper.

It’s official.

The 50th annual Farm-City Days celebration will once again feature a carnival to entertain youngsters and those young at heart.

Committee members reached an agreement this week with Fun Time Shows, a southeast Missouri-based carnival for each day of the Oct. 14-17 celebration.

Rides will be set up along Jackson Avenue on the north side of the courthouse square.

Fun Time Shows also provided carnival rides for the 2020 celebration, committee member Aaron Franklin noted.

While the celebration doesn’t kick off for another couple of weeks, the deadline is nearing to register for the Farm-City Days Medallion Hunt, and a chance to win $500.

Hunters have through Tuesday to order a virtual button at farmcitydays.com — cost is $2 — and the first clue will be released in the Register and online at farmcitydays.com at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Only those who have purchased a button are eligible for the prize.

Clues will be released once a day at 10 a.m. The number of clues will depend on how long it takes to find the medallion.

The medallion will be hidden somewhere on public property in Allen County.

THE CARNIVAL opens the celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, and Friday, Oct. 15.

The Friday evening carnival coincides with a community dinner sponsored by Allen County Farm Bureau on the square.

The bulk of the activities occur Saturday, Oct. 16, with a number of arts and crafts exhibits, sales and food vendors, the annual Iola Mason Lodge car and motorcycle show and petting zoo.

Performances by In Step Dance Academy at 10 a.m. and Miss Chelsea’s Dance Academy at 10 preced the 11 a.m. parade.

This year’s them is “Superheroes.”

Kansas City’s legendary Dancing Cobras will perform at noon, with other performing acts running into the afternoon.
