An Iola family is in search of a permanent home after their house was destroyed by an early Saturday fire.
An electrical fire at the home of Troy Nading, in the 200 block of North Second Street, destroyed much of the house and its contents.
Nading was not at home; his mother and children were.
Nadings mother noticed the smoke, awakened her grandchildren, and the family fled the house as the fire began to spread.
Firefighters knocked down the flames before the fire could spread elsewhere, but the home was a total loss.
The Neosho Valley chapter of the American Red Cross assisted the family with clothes and other items.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to benefit the family. Go to www.gofundme.com/nading-house-fire for more information.
Nading said his mother, who suffers from heart disease, was later taken to Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita; his children were uninjured.
The Nadings are staying at a relatives vacant house until permanent housing can be found.
