Tammy Hughes, 45, Elsmore, died in a traffic accident on Delaware Road three-tenths of a mile east of U.S. 169 Thursday afternoon. Delaware Road is southeast of Humboldt and commonly referred to as Tank Farm Road in that area.
According to the Highway Patrol, Hughes was driving west when her car and a semi truck driven by Merle Leroy Beeman, 70, Humboldt, collided head-on. Officers said Beeman slammed on the brakes of his truck to avoid hitting another semi, driven by Michael Dean DuPuy, 49, Chanute, which had slowed to turn. Beeman’s truck then spun to the left and collided with Hughes’ car, they said.
Both trucks were eastbound.
