Elsmore alumni give scholarships

Elsmore Alumni Association’s 84th celebration was May 26. Alumni and friends visited in the afternoon at the Elsmore Methodist Church and toured the remodeling of the Elsmore School. The evening banquet was at the Elsmore Community Building. There were 122 attendees from the classes of 1947 to 2018.

Alumni who died in the previous year were acknowledged with a remembrance candle: Edward Pavlicek (1945), Vera Ard Singer and Raymond Erickson (1947), Paul Daniels (1949), Hillis Krokstrom (1951), Don Edward Parrott (1953), Patsy Isaac Derozoles (1960) and Allan Howell (1967).

Scholarships were presented in memory of Jerry Mercing and Phyllis Mercing Cox, Floyd Boler Jr., Debra Wilson, Bill and Deloris Tippie Wilson, Shirley Bauer, Mike Moran, Bert and Gladys Fewins, and in honor of Boler/Miner Graduates. Other alumni contributed to the general scholarship. Receiving scholarships were: Selena Veenstra, Benjamin R. George, Riley Paige Murry, Katlin Dawn Brown, Taryn Olivia Covey, Dylan Gene Richwine, Maggie M. Stevenson, Shelby Lynn Hutchinson, Clarie Moran and Aubree Lynn Altic.

Alumni unable to be present were recognized: Ruth Mattson Woods (1936) and Nina Lee Thompson Johnson (1939). Cards were signed for them.

The oldest married alumni couple present was Henry (1948) and Doris Graham (1953) Ericson. The Bauer family had the most family members present: Don Bauer, Duane Bauer, Darrell Bauer and Mary Ann Magnuson-Patterson. The seven members of the class of 1966 had the most present. Carol Oberg Riley (1964) from Kentucky came the greatest distance to attend. Six members of the 1968 class reunited 50 years after graduation from Moran.

Officers for 2019 are Connie Krokstrom Schmidt (1973) as president, Judy Wilson (1981) as vice president and Janice Fewins Rake (1970) as secretary/treasurer.
