LA CYGNE — The Iola Ponies hit the road on Monday when they traveled to La Cygne to face off with the Prairie View Buffalos.
Iola eighth-grade varsity point guard Hannah Gardner’s stellar performance sparked her squad to a 29-15 win over the Buffalos.
Gardner finished the game with 11 points and five steals to lead the Ponies in both categories.
Gardner’s backcourt partner Becca Sprague was a terror on the glass with a team-high 11 rebounds to go with six points.
Lauryn Holloway had a well-rebounded game with eight points and seven rebounds. McKenna Orear added four points.
7TH-GRADE VARSITY
The Iola seventh-grade varsity fell behind 7-0 in the first quarter and despite a late rally attempt, were unable to defeat the Buffalos.
Prairie View beat Iola 22-18.
Jenna Curry led Iola with eight points while Reece Murry added five.
Josie Plumlee and Chloe Sell each had two points and Maci Miller added one. Plumlee also had seven steals.
7TH-GRADE JV
Prairie View’s seventh-grade junior varsity beat Iola 35-13.
Maci Miller led the Ponies with six points.
Mariah Vannice, Vivian Noaj and Jada Cunningham each added two points. Averie Sharon rounded out the scoring with one.
