Scores of cyclists celebrated the five-year anniversary of the Southwind Rail Trail on Saturday. The event started at Velo+ bike shop in Iola and winded along the trail to Humboldt where participants enjoyed lunch at Opies and a visit to the Neosho River Park. The return trip to Iola took riders along several different routes, with some visiting the new King of Trails pedestrian bridge on South Washington and the Lehigh Portland Trails complex. The Southwind Rail Trail is 6.5 miles of free access with trail rights held by the Sunflower Rail Trail Conservancy. The trail was cleared and constructed by volunteers in 2012 and early 2013. Participants from four counties enjoyed Saturdays event. PHOTOS COURTESY OF JAY KRETZMEIER
