With the beginning of school in her sights, Jefferson Elementary music teacher Karen Jesseph thought a performance at Thursday’s Farmers Market would be good for the drumming circle.
“We have been doing our summer drumming practices at Jefferson and since Thursday is our last day I figured the kids needed a little performance,” Jesseph said.
The group that will be playing will be made up of fourth- and fifth-graders from Lincoln, McKinley and Jefferson elementary schools, Jesseph said.
The drumming circle will be playing a “Caribbean piece, a piece from Peru and Ecuador area and some African pieces,” Jesseph said. The circle also will be playing some American folk music.
The circle will be mostly made up of Tubano drums.
There have been 32 students participating in the summer practice sessions.
The circle will begin playing at 5:30 p.m. at the Market on the southwest corner of the square.
