Deer to blame for series of wrecks

Deer were responsible for three accidents, one in Wilson County involving a Humboldt man and two others occurring in Allen County.

At 7:30 Friday night a car driven by Brian Dillow, Humboldt police chief, hit several deer that ran into K-39 three miles west of Chanute. He and a passenger, Jeffrey Collins, 36, Chanute, were taken to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. where they were treated for minor injuries.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday a car driven by Rachel E. Smith, 17, Moran, hit a deer on U.S. 54 a mile east of LaHarpe. Smith was taken to Allen County Hospital. Smith’s car ran off the highway, went through a barbed wire fence and came to rest in a pasture.

Sunday night at 9:30 a van driven by Cynthia Shockey, 52, Chanute, struck a deer on U.S. 169 a mile south of Humboldt. Shockey was not injured, but a passenger, Brandy Gensweider, 27, Chanute, was. Gensweider was taken to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.
