Following four executive sessions, covering 30 minutes, Allen County commissioners folded their hands and adjourned their Tuesday morning meeting.
Reasons for secrecy concerned acquisition of property (twice), matters having to do with non-elected personnel and a fourth session to do with client-attorney privilege. All topics are allowed to be held in secret by the Kansas Open Meetings Act.
Otherwise, they instructed Ron Holman, maintenance supervisor, to look into repair of an awning atop the entrance door to the old ambulance station on North State Street, rather than replace it with new material. The building is used for storage and to give itinerant paramedics, serving shifts with the Iola-operated ambulance service, a place to spend off-duty time.
They also told Holman to look into an awning for the doorway on the north side of the courthouse leading to the Public Works Department and other basement level offices.
With Dec. 25 falling on Christmas Day, commissioners will meet that Friday, Dec. 28, to deal with year-end duties. Similarly, the Jan. 1 meeting will be canceled, for New Years Day.
In the only financial decision, commissioners voted unanimously to purchase a new 68-inch angle brush for a Bobcat for $5,700 from KC Bobcat, Olathe. It will replace an 84-inch brush that has been in use for 17 years; it will be retained. The attachment is used to clear snow from courthouse lawn sidewalks, clear roads after chip-seal treatment and other occasional projects.
