Country club holds charity tournament

Allen County Country Club hosted its 2018 Member Guest Charity Golf Tournament on June 2-3 and topped $50,000 raised in the 20-year run of the tournament.

In the past, money raised from the tournament was used to help with youth sports, Iola High School music programs, playground equipment at the park, Hope Unlimited, the National Guard and several other organizations. This year, funds went to aid the Iola High School girls softball and boys and girls basketball programs and the Trent Rhodes Memorial Fund.

The tournament included three flights.

The team of Andy Shaw and B. Hardaker won A Flight while Tim Stinnett and Tom Stinnett finished second and Ken Nelson and Langley Martin won third.

B Flight was led by the team of Doug Strickler and Tim Smith followed by Dennis Skahan and Dick Zajic and Buzzy Barker and Tim Pretty. C Flight was led by Clint Stoy and J. Coplon followed by David Cescon and Mike Yates and Bill Weston and W. Neibarger.

Sponsors for this year’s tournament include J&C Electrical, Sigg Motors, State Farm-Terry Sparks, State Street Liquor, Sonic Equipment, Ace Refrigeration, Boren Roofing, Community National Bank, Iola Pharmacy, PSI Insurance, Rookies, Sonic Drive-In, Craig and Georgia Abbott, G&W Foods and Mary Lacy and Family in memory of Rick Zajic.
