Gordon Conger filed Friday for the Allen County Commission District 2 Republican nomination. Rob Francis, first-term District 2 incumbent and also a Republican, filed for re-election Tuesday.
Conger’s filing ensures a local race in the Aug. 7 primary election. He previously served on the commission from August 1986 until January 1993.
“I wanted to make sure people had a choice” for District 2 seat the next four years, Conger told the Register.
The district is made up of Iola’s Third Ward and North Iola, Geneva, Carlyle, Deer Creek, Osage and Elm townships.
Conger said his wishlist as a commissioner would include consolidating law enforcement in the county and also having one ambulance service.
Conger, 77, retired from a 40-year farming career in 2003.
