Christian Church

Howard Reiter gave the Communion meditation Sunday on John 6:53-39. Pastor Chase Riebel gave the sermon titled “The Prince of Peace” from Ezekiel 34, James 4:1-3, Romans 8:3-4, Isaiah 9:6-7 & 11:6-9, Revelation 22:1-3.

Men’s Bible study is at 7 a.m. Tuesday. Meal and prayer time are at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday,  followed by youth group at 7.

Cowboy Church

A bountiful holiday dinner topped off the Sunday service at High Point Cowboy Church where everyone enjoyed a relaxed time of fellowship and food.

Jon Petty read from Mark 12:29-31. The praise band featured several traditional Christmas songs. Announcements included an invitation to attend a special service at 7 p.m. Saturday at Toronto Cowboy Church, where Kenny Russell from Israel will speak. He will be at High Point Sunday morning.

A Christmas Eve candlelight service begins at 5 p.m. at the church. The community is invited.

United Methodist Church

Scripture shared at the Sunday service was Luke 1: 68-79, Malachi 3: 1-4, Philippians 1: 3-11 and Luke 3: 1-6. Pastor Dorothy Welch presented the sermon, “Refine.”

Library

Colony Library was awarded a $164.99 equipment technology development Grant from the Southeast Kansas Library System to purchase a DVD player and projector. 

Lions Club 

Bill Smith, Sue Michael, Steve Michael, and Mary Scovill were welcomed as new members at the Dec. 5 meeting of the Colony Lions Club. The annual pizza dinner was held with three of the Methodist Women cooks present. Ten members answered roll call. The shut-in list was reviewed. Gene Anderson, Jay Dutton and Ron McMullen will deliver the poinsettias. 

Santa will deliver treat sacks to preschool through the fourth grade. The Lions will prepare the sacks at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Bill Smith drew the winning ticket in the gun drawing. Mike Boaz of Chanute won the Stoeger shotgun.

4-H

The Frontier District Anderson County 4-H held its annual achievement program on Nov. 4. 

Special recognition went to to Seekers Not Slackers 4-H Club and other county clubs. 

Thursday is 4-H Community Bingo Night at the City Hall Community Room. The fun begins at 5:30 p.m. Seekers Not Slackers will serve the refreshments. Come join the fun!
