In one of the briefest meetings in memory, Allen Community College trustees took only a few minutes to approve ACC’s 2022-23 budget Thursday.
The special meeting was scheduled after the college learned earlier this month of a typographical error from the county clerk’s office announcing the budget hearing.
Rather than republish a second notice, which would have been necessary to hold the hearing during the trustees’ next regular meeting Sept. 13, they agreed to Thursday’s special session.
It took less than a minute for them to ratify the $18 million spending plan, which is supported in part with a property tax levy of 19.825 mills.
The mill levy is virtually identical to last year’s, but will generate additional revenue because the county’s assessed valuation increased by more than $10 million.
A single mill generates about $163,000.
What that means for taxpayers is that the owner of a $100,000 home will spend about $228 to support the college this year. (This figure does not include property taxes for such things as Allen County or whatever community or township in which the resident lives.)
