Iola City Council members honored outgoing Councilman Austin Sigg, who resigned his seat because he has moved out of the city’s Third Ward and thus is ineligible from keeping his seat.
Sigg has two years remaining from his four-year term. He was given a plaque from Mayor Joel Wicoff.
“It’s not easy to make some of the decisions we’ve made,” Sigg said. “I’ll miss it. It was a good time.”
Now, the city is seeking interested citizens hoping to replace Sigg.
The only requirement is that the resident be from Ward 3, the southwest quarter of town, bordering Breckenridge Street to the north and Cottonwood Street to the east.
Interested parties should call City Hall, 365-4900, to be considered.
A replacement will be appointed by Mayor Joel Wicoff, and is subject to approval from the remaining Council members.
Sigg, a supply sergeant for the National Guard’s 891st Engineer Battalion in Iola, was elected to a four-year term over incumbent Gene Myrick in April 2015.
