Iola city employees will receive a 2 percent raise for 2018.
City Council members voted unanimously Monday to provide a 2-percent cost of living adjustment for all employees.
Iola bases its COLA raises on the Consumer Price Index, the same standard used in setting Social Security benefits.
This the largest such raise since 2012, with employees receiving no COLA adjustment in 2016 and .3 percent this year.

PLANS FOR a new Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas facility on North State Street are in the works.
Council members unanimously approved the Health Center’s site plan at 2051 N. State St., with a minor caveat. The site plan did not include landscaping elements, which are required by city codes.
The Health Center is aware of the discrepancy and will have its plans up to snuff before a building permit is issued, Assistant City Administrator Corey Schinstock said.

THE COUNCIL also:
— Approved a request to waive the rental fee for Humanity House to use the New Community Building at Riverside Park for a Nov. 16 chili fundraiser.
— Were told by City Administrator Sid Fleming that the city is still awaiting final damage estimates from the Oct. 14 thunderstorm that snapped a series of electric poles on the west edge of town near Russell Stover Candies. The city restored power to the candy plant by the next afternoon, with assistance from Chanute. “We’re still waiting on their bill,” Fleming said.
