Iola’s Wesley United Methodist Church has invited the community to partake in a “Sing”-O de Mayo celebration Saturday.
Pastor Trudy Kenyon Anderson and church member Jenel Eisbenbart said the event was well under way before they realized it coincided with the Mexican holiday, and so adapted its theme accordingly.
The church’s praise band and other local singing talent will begin playing at 7 p.m. at the north edge of the east parking lot. Music sheets will be handed out so spectators can sing along, too. Matt Stuckey, Shelly Meadows and Casiee Wolfe will be featured soloists. Wolfe and Stuckey will perform a duet.
A free salsa bar offers an assortment of dips. The chips have been donated by El Charro Mexican Restaurant, Eisenbart said. Tea and lemonade will be served.
Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the 90-minute festival.
In case of rain, “Sing”-O de Mayo will be moved into the church, at the southeast corner of Madison and Buckeye streets.
