Members of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church will resume their monthly community dinners with a sloppy joe meal Wednesday evening at the church. “We take the summers off,” explained Sue O’Connor, a church member and meal server.
Dinners will be served at the church from 5 to 7 at 202 S. Walnut St.
Meals are provided for a freewill offering. Call-in orders will be accepted after 4 p.m. Wednesday at 365-7306.
In addition to sloppy joes, baked beans, potato salad, dessert, ice tea and coffee will be served.
Proceeds go to the Iola schools Backpack Program, Hope Unlimited, for those needing medical treatment out of town, for paying utility bills and more, O’Connor said.
“Not a dime goes to our church; 100 percent of the proceeds go to the community for community needs. This year we also bought a lot of school supplies,” she said.
The Backpack Program provides “a backpack full of food every week on Friday for kids” who may otherwise not have enough to eat over the weekend, O’Connor said. “It’s not a lot of food, but if you were hungry it would make a difference.”
