An Iola man was taken into custody Monday after a 4-year-old child was found left unattended and locked in a house for several hours earlier in the day.
The Allen County Sheriffs Department reported that Blayke Anthony Reynolds, 22, was arrested for suspicion of aggravated endangerment of a child, criminal restraint and causing a child to become a child in need of care.
The arrest stemmed from an incident late Monday afternoon in which neighbors heard the child banging on a bedroom window and asking for someone to unlock his door at a residence at 603 S. Ohio St., according to the ACSD report.
Iola police officers were dispatched to the scene.
Finding no adult home, they quickly entered the residence to find the child locked in his bedroom. The rooms door knob had been turned around so it could be locked from the outside, deputies said, with no way to exit the room once inside.
The room was reported to have an overwhelming odor of ammonia, and human waste was spotted on the floor, deputies said.
Reynolds was located at work in LaCygne, just over an hour northeast of Iola, and told law enforcement he was scheduled to work until midnight that day.
Deputies located the childs mother, who said that a similar situation had happened in the past.
Reynolds reportedly had temporary custody of the child, who has since been placed in his mothers custody.
Officers said they were uncertain whether previous incidents had been reported to law enforcement.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Reynolds was being held on $10,000 bond, deputies said.
