Carla Capper not only knows her customers by name, but also their taste in jewelry.
That’s the advantage of living in a small community, she said.
Capper Jewelry, 4 N. Washington, has been a part of the Iola community since 1964. Brent and Carla Capper purchased the store from his parents, Arthur and Martha Capper, in January 1995.
The holiday shopping season is looking bright with a steady stream of customers, Capper said.
Capper Jewelry buys direct from manufacturers, enabling them to offer a large selection of merchandise with competitive pricing.
“I tell my customers if they’ve seen a piece of jewelry they like on TV or in the city, we can get it for them here in Iola,” Capper said.
With gold on the pricey side, sterling silver fashions have been the preferred choice of customers. Colored pearls have also been popular.
The store carries exclusive designs by Kate McCuller of Bauman-Massa Jewelry in St. Louis, Mo.
“Kate’s designs are unique. I tell a lot of men who come in to buy a pendant that there are also rings and earrings that match that would make a thoughtful gift for another special occasion,” Capper said.
A variety of watches, wedding and fashion rings, money clips and tie chains are among the gift offerings for men.
Jelly watches, with straps in the colors of area schools and colleges, are popular this holiday season. The watches are inexpensive and have large numbers on the faces making it easy for people of all ages to read, Capper said.
Capper Jewelry takes pride in being able to offer in-store jewelry repair.
“I think people appreciate the fact they can bring their broken jewelry in and have it back within a couple of days instead of weeks,” she said.
Store hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays and will extend its hours to 7 o’clock on Thursdays during the holiday season.
