A busy week lies ahead for Iola High School.
The IHS drama students will present a light-hearted look at dating Thursday and Friday with their spring performance, “Check, Please,” by Don Zolidis.
The play follows the story of a man and woman as they go through a series of dates, where they encounter such colorful characters as a mime and a kleptomaniac.
“Check, Please,” under the direction of Richard Spencer, features Colton Schubert and Danielle Venter in starring roles, with Jordan Garcia, Drew Smith, Fryendz Wallace, Hayden Wolf, Madison Luken, Violet McCullough, Audrea Stahl and Maggie Terhune as supporting characters.
The Bowlus Fine Arts Center curtain rises at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is free.
THE RED carpet is unrolled for IHS upperclassmen Saturday evening for the 2012 Junior-Senior Prom.
Students will begin arriving at the high school at about 6 o’clock — some in a wide assortment of unusual vehicles — before the 7 o’clock Grand March.
Both sides of the gymnasium will be open for seating, although spectators will once again be barred from sitting on the gym floor for photos, due to fire codes.
The march ends at 8, at which time community members will be asked to leave so the dancing can commence.
This year’s prom commemorates the 100th anniversary of Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage, featuring Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”
The gym will be decorated to recreate Titanic’s grand ballroom.
Prom runs until midnight, at which time the scene shifts to the Recreation Community Building at Riverside Park for after-prom.
After-prom ends at 3 a.m.
The prom decorations will be kept in place Sunday afternoon, when the IHS leadership class hosts a senior citizens prom in the gymnasium.
Area residents of all ages are invited to partake, starting at 2 o’clock.
Free corsages and boutonnieres will be given to the first 30 men and 30 women who arrive.
Admission to the senior citizens prom also is free. Refreshments will be served.
