Even though John Brocker will step down from the Allen County commission in January, he will remain involved in county affairs.

Commissioners Bill King and Jerry Daniels Tuesday morning appointed Brocker to the Allen County Regional Hospital Board of Trustees, effective on his leaving the commission.

Brocker was defeated by Bruce Symes in the August Republican primary and then again as a write-in candidate for the general election.

The appointment filled the second vacancy on the ACRH board created by the upcoming retirements of Patti Boyd, rural Moran, and Sean McReynolds, Humboldt.

Mona Hull, Humboldt, was appointed to the board two weeks ago.

Brocker has been a vocal critic of some aspects of the hospital and its board’s management, but said, “I have no comments about the hospital right now,” Brocker said, “but I’m sure I will have going forward.”

The board is in the process of reviewing new options for management.

Brocker has been a commissioner since being appointed to fill Jim Talkington’s unexpired term in March, following Talkington’s resignation.

Brocker, 68, owns Allen County Realty and is involved in auction sales.

SHERIFF Bryan Murphy told commissioners he would dispatch officers to LaHarpe if reports were made of dogs being left outside in trying weather conditions.

The fate of pets is a concern of Tai Lee, LaHarpe. Though she did not appear at the meeting, County Clerk Sherrie Riebel reported Lee said she was anxious “about dogs being left out in the cold.”

Commissioners have no role in such things, and handed them off to Murphy, under whose authority animal welfare can be an issue.
