As the days of summer dwindle to the precious few, students will return their thoughts to homework and schoolbooks starting this week. HUMBOLDT-USD 258 and Marmaton Valley-USD 256 students both will enroll for the 2015-16 school campaign on Wednesday and Thursday. Classes resume at both districts on Aug. 20. THE START OF the school year is widely divergent for two other area districts.
Enrollment at Iola-USD 257 begins Wednesday morning in the Iola High School commons area.
Enrollment runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
Classes begin Aug. 26.
Students who are unable to enroll this week must do so afterward at their respective attendance center before school starts.
This year is the first for district-wide, grade-level attendance centers in Iola. A district-wide open house is planned for Aug. 25.
Enrollment also runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Yates Center-USD 366. New students can enroll Friday at Yates Center High School. Classes in Yates Center begin Aug. 17.
Southern Coffey County students return to school Aug. 12, nearly four weeks before Crest USD 479 students begin their school year (Sept. 8).
Enrollment for SCC students began today for those in Gridley; those in Le Roy will enroll Tuesday.
With the late start to the school year — Board of Education members voted earlier this year to push it back past Labor Day — enrollment at Crest is planned for Aug. 26 for students with last names beginning A-M; Aug. 27 for students N-Z. New students will enroll Aug. 28.
