It took all of about 2½ minutes for a pair of thieves to empty “several thousands of dollars” from a Bank of Gas ATM early Thursday.
“They knew what they were doing,” Sheriff Bryan Murphy said Friday, as the Sheriff’s Department continues to search for clues in the late-night burglary.
The suspects entered the foyer in the front of the bank shortly after midnight Thursday morning, scurrying away at one point as a car apparently passed by.
They returned moments later, disabling lights along the sidewalk in front of the bank, and then in the foyer, making it impossible to see them on camera.
Murphy said one of the suspects was taller “perhaps 6-4 or so” while the other was shorter and stockier.
He hopes folks watch the brief 30-second surveillance video, posted on both the ACSD and Register’s Facebook pages, to see if they recognize the suspects. One recognizable feature could be the way they walk.
He also encouraged people to speak out if they know somebody who suddenly has come in possession of several $20 bills.
Investigators are poring through videos taken earlier at the bank to see if anybody matches the descriptions. They also are looking at surveillance from other nearby businesses to determine if any suspicious people or vehicles stand out.
Those with any tips about the burglary are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Department at 365-1400, or Allen County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or use the Crime Stoppers PE Tops app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
