Neosho Co. seeks info on 169 rebuild
ERIE Neosho County commissioners were expected to meet with representatives from the Kansas Department of Transportation this week about rebuilding U.S. 169. The project will be from Earlton, three miles north of the intersection with K-47, north to the Humboldt exit 1.7 miles north of the Allen County line. A portion from the Humboldt exit north to Iola is currently being rebuilt. Commissioners were concerned about alternate routes, especially Elk Road, which was the old US-169 route.
Moran speaks at Fredonia
FREDONIA Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kanas, visited a high school classmate and attended the Fredonia Rotary Clubs meeting to discuss trade and exports, particularly tariffs and NAFTA, according to The Wilson County Citizen. He visited with constituents from Woodson County, Fredonia and Neodesha as part of a Kansas Listening Tour. He also visited Burlington and Yates Center.
Grant lets fitness center go 24-hours
GARNETT A $7,380 grant from the Goppert Foundation will allow the Garnett Recreation Center to upgrade to a 24-hour operating facility, The Anderson County Review reported. The Goppert organization will fund the proposals final conversion costs. It includes keyless entry for members and a software system to manage the facility when not staffed. Members could access the facility at any time. The plan should be introduced in early September.
Hospital to get 3D mammography
CHANUTE The Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center Foundation made a $148,000 donation to buy 3-D mammography equipment, according to The Chanute Tribune The hospital will become the first in the region with the equipment, which will become the standard in 2019. Multiple images are assembled into a three-dimensional format to locate tumors better than traditional 2-D mammography.
