Group aims to fix Yates Center issues
YATES CENTER A new group, RevitalizeYC, had its first meeting recently to discuss their reasons to want to improve the town, The Yates Center News reported. Citizens spoke about the problems they saw within the community and tossed around quick thoughts on how to fix them. The RevitalizeYC group asked citizens to fill out a survey for a follow-up meeting planned sometime for late October or early November.
Wind farm planned for Neosho County
ERIE Representatives from a wind farm company gave an update to Neosho County commissioners about a planned project in southwest Neosho County, according to the Chanute Tribune. The project is planned for 40,000 acres between Thayer and Erie. A Charlottesville, Va.,-based company plans to build up to 130 wind turbines to generate 300 megawatts of electricity. Construction could begin in either the fall of 2019 or spring of 2020 and take nine months.
Burlington wants to conserve water
BURLINGTON Water customers from the Burlington water plant need to take voluntary water conservation measures, after a water watch was declared by the city council, according to the Coffey County Republican. Affected consumers include Burlington, Gridley, Le Roy and New Strawn city residents, and Coffey County Rural Water Districts No. 2 and 3. Measures include limiting or eliminating nonessential water use like watering lawns, washing automobiles or not filling swimming pools.
County sees higher delinquent taxes
GARNETT Anderson Countys delinquent property taxes increased 5 percent between 2016 and 2017, gaining but paling in comparison to the 24 percent delinquency increase the county saw the year before that, The Anderson County Review reported. Landowners owe a total $398,004 by the 2017 deadline, up from $377,989 due in 2016. A total of 533 properties were delinquent in 2017 taxes.
Labette Health clinic planned for Chanute
PARSONS Labette Health trustees agreed to spend $300,000 to build and outfit the new medical and express care clinic in Chanute, according to The Parsons Sun. The clinic, at a shopping area at 2613 S. Santa Fe Ave., will offer family medicine as well as lab and X-ray diagnostics.
