Linn County to test for wind farm
MOUND CITY Linn County commissioners approved a special use permit for a 180-foot-tall test tower near Blue Mound to see if the area has enough wind to justify a wind farm, The Anderson County Review reported. An official with E.ON, a German-based renewables power company, said he had spoken with 15 Linn County residents who support a wind farm.
Sheriff wants more money to hire staff
BURLINGTON Coffey County Sheriff Randy Rogers wants a 19 percent budget increase to run his department in 2019, which amounts to an additional $350,000 to the $1.8 million he received this year. The money will be used to fund three new patrol officer positions and an additional jailer, he said. Rogers said it is more difficult to attract law enforcement officers of good quality and schedule vacation time, which leads to burnout.
Colony man seeks lower speed limits
COLONY A Colony man has circulated petitions to lower the speed limit in parts of Colony and designate Children At Play areas with signs, according to The Anderson County Review. Steve Leonard said he lost his son and wife in a car wreck, and wants to protect children in the area.
Erie seeks help with street rebuild
ERIE Erie city officials and Neosho County Commissioners met recently to work on a street rebuilding project, The Chanute Tribune reported. The city wants money to rebuild Fourth Street from Main Street to west of the railroad. The city wants to apply for a grant that would require 50 percent matching funds.
