Garnett voters get a say in commission expansion proposal
GARNETT Voters in Garnett could weigh-in on whether to expand the city commission from three members to five, though a final decision still would be left to the governing body, according to The Anderson County Review. Mayor Jody Cole wanted to give voters a chance to choose but said she doesnt think a five-member commission is a good idea. The option was forwarded by newly elected commissioner Brigitte Brecheisen-Huss. Commissioner Greg Gwin said he wanted voters to have a say. Commissioners approved a resolution directing the question to the November election.
Former Humboldt man to lead Fredonia
FREDONIA After six months without a city administrator, officials appointed Kelley Zellner to fill the role, according to The Wilson County Citizen. He previously served as Director of Public Works at Valley Center, a community in the Wichita metropolitan area. He previously had law enforcement positions in Conway Springs and Humboldt; he also owned and managed a construction business and hardware store in Humboldt and served part-time as a church minister. He and his wife, Carolyn, have two grown sons.
Woodson Co. warns of cattle thefts
YATES CENTER The Woodson County Sheriffs Office warns cattle owners of several reports of cattle theft lately, The Yates Center News reported. They ask everyone to keep an eye out for any activity that seems suspicious and report it to local law enforcement immediately.
Hotel project breaks ground in Parsons
PARSONS A groundbreaking ceremony officially kicked off construction of a long-awaited hotel project in Parsons, although dirt work already is well underway, The Parsons Sun reported. Dozens of city officials and people associated with the project gathered near Cattle Drive and North 16th Street (U.S. 59) for the ceremony. The city has been working with a developer for the four-story hotel and 8,020 square-foot conference center. The city gave $1.4 million in incentives for the conference center.
County separates 911, emergency management
ERIE Neosho County Commissioners considered resolutions to reorganize 911 and emergency management, The Chanute Tribune reported. The emergency management and 911 dispatch departments will become separate departments, no longer under the sheriffs department.
