A portion of U.S. 169 will be closed to local traffic south of Humboldt starting Tuesday.
The Kansas Department of Transportation announced Thursday the highway north of the Chanute-Humboldt road will be closed for about 60 days, weather permitting, to allow for roadway and ramp reconstruction. The highway already was closed north of Delaware (Tank Farm Road) as part of the U.S. 169 pavement reconstruction project.
Northbound traffic will still be able to access the Chanute-Humboldt Road. The southbound U.S. 169 ramp also will remain open.
Work also will begin at the Neosho River bridge, which lies just south of the Chanute-Humboldt turnoff on 169.
Crews from Mission Construction Company, Inc., St. Paul, will repair a bridge pier cap and blast and paint rockers at the pier. An expansion device also will be repaired.
Temporary signals will control one-lane traffic at the bridge. Motorists should expect brief delays, according to a KDOT press release. The cost of the bridge project is about $113,000.
