Before most youngsters have finished off their Halloween candy stash, Cheryl Sparks, Barbie Daugharthy and Teresa Gribble will have their sights set on Christmas.
In particular, they’ll be focused on providing help to youngsters in need through the Adopt-A-Child campaign.
Parents can sign up their children for assistance from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 2 — the first Monday after Halloween — at Iola’s First Baptist Church, 801 N. Cottonwood St.
Parents must bring their child’s Social Security card, medical card and clothing and shoe sizes, as well as non-clothing gift ideas. Children up to 18 years old are eligible, provided they are still in school.
The children can be “adopted” Nov. 9-25.
By then, Sparks wants to have all of the wish lists in the hands of local donors willing to lend a hand, either by buying the gifts, or by donating financially to the cause. As in years past, the Adopt-A-Child account has been set up at Emprise Bank in Iola.
Gifts should be delivered to First Baptist by Dec. 3, so they can be distributed Dec. 10.
For more information, contact Sparks at 365-1789, Daugharthy at 365-5061 or Gribble at 365-9103.
