Tanner A. Beuvais, arrested in April after a series of chases sent him and a pursuing officer to the hospital, now faces 22 charges related to the event.

Thirteen charges were filed last week by the Allen County Attorney Jerry Hathaway, accusing Beauvais of two counts of aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer, aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated escape from custody, two counts of interfering with law enforcement, two counts of fleeing or eluding law enforcement, a count of criminal damage to property.

Those cases come on top of nine other charges filed May 10: allegations of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, aggravated escape from custody, interfering with law enforcement, criminal damage to property (two counts), battery of a law enforcement officer, theft (two counts), fleeing and eluding law enforcement and driving while suspended.

Beauvais was arrested following a two-day search and series of chases that started the afternoon of April 1 and continued until his arrest April 2.

He fled from a traffic stop south of Iola on U.S. 169, wrestling free from a deputy after a handcuff was placed on his arm. He took off in a friend’s truck and became stuck in a nearby pond, sparking a three-hour search in a wooded area.

Authorities received a call the next morning that a man matching Beauvais’ description was spotted walking along Mississippi Road.

Iola police officers responded, and another scuffle ensued. Beauvais again eluded arrest, stole an IPD patrol vehicle — dragging officer Steve Womack behind him a short distance — and crashed into a tree along Old 169 less than a mile later when he saw another officer’s vehicle approaching from the south.

Officers used a Taser on him multiple times before he eventually was subdued, treated for minor injuries at Allen County Regional Hospital and taken into custody. Womack also was treated for minor injuries at the hospital.

Magistrate Judge Tod Davis appointed a public defender to represent Beauvais, and scheduled a status hearing for June 28.

He remains in custody.

In an unrelated matter, Beauvais also faces theft charges from earlier in the spring at Iola Walmart, according to the Allen County District Court clerk’s office.
