Tales of an unusual prom night, a dysfunctional marriage counselor, being broke, a quirky group of superheroes, a stage crew thrust into a difficult situation and the story of a man’s life from the perspective of his couch, will be shared by Allen County Community College drama students next weekend.

An Evening of One-Acts returns to the ACCC Theatre stage Feb. 23-25. Tickets for each of the 7:30 p.m. shows sell for $6 for adults and $4 for students, and are available at Iola Pharmacy and at the door on show nights.

In keeping with tradition, five of the six plays were written by ACCC students. All six were directed by Allen County students as well.

DAKOTA YOHE has written and is directing “Prom Night,” a memorable occasion for high-schoolers everywhere.

But Yohe’s yarn has a bit of a twist.

“We have girls in the boys’ roles, and boys in the girls’,”  Yohe said. “It’s really come together pretty well. I’m proud of it.”

“Prom Night” stars Brandon Collins, Travis Eppinger, Mack Melvin, Rhea Shay, Taylor Easum and Jessica Truitt.

WHITNEY OLSON wrote and is directing “The Useless League,” a story of a group of quirky superheroes who, for whatever reasons, have found other things in life deserve a higher priority than fighting super villains.

The idea for “Useless” came from Olson’s weekly youth group sessions with his older brother, Nic. One pastime included coming up with unusual heroes, such as River Dance Boy or Prince Ninja Man. And instead of thwarting an evil plot focused on what to have for lunch.

Olson’s play also carries a local flavor, with several obscure references to locations in and around Iola. The goal is for the audience to pay attention to find out what locations are being spotlighted, he said.

“The Useless League” stars Eppinger, Brandon Eckley, Grace Cameron and Shay.

VALEREE WINSLOW is the writer and director for “Cast and Crew,” the story of a stage crew that inadvertently incapacitates one of the two main characters during the showing of a play.
