Allen Community College released a rendering of a new activity center during a luncheon last week to honor its endowment scholarship donors and recipients.
?We are entering a pretty exciting time right now as we enter our new campaign, that is a multi-faceted and challenging project, but it will have a positive and lasting effect on our college for many, many years to come,? ACC president John Masterson said.
The school?s director of development, Aimee Thompson, announced the school is kicking off a five-year capital campaign with a goal of raising $5 million, saying, ?though it is ambitious, I can?t wait to see the changes that we bestow on Allen for our students, and our community.?

The campaign is titled the ACC Endowment Association?s Centennial Campaign.
ACC will be turning 100 years old in the fall of 2023.
The campaign will benefit fine arts, agriculture, athletics and the college as a whole.
Thompson said it was obvious the school had outgrown its current activity center. Their goal is to give athletes and the community a more conducive environment for fitness and safety. The school plans for part of the facility to be used as a storm shelter.
A portion of the campaign will help fund the activity center.
Brian Counsil, vice president for finance and affairs, confirmed the drawing was just a rendering to give donors a chance to see what they were working toward.
?We still have no idea what it will contain, or anything like that,? Counsil said.
Masterson has visited with Iola and Allen County leaders to discuss the activity center in an effort to gauge their enthusiasm for a partnership. The project without a swimming pool has been projected to cost as much as $13 million, while a facility with an indoor pool would add $10 million to the project.
The school?s planning committee has not held a meeting in the last month due to Tuesday?s election which will decide Iola?s mayor and three seats on the school?s board of trustees.
