ACC is gearing up to search for a new president.

Neal Barclay, chair of the Board of Trustees, put forward a hiring timeline at Tuesday night’s meeting.

He again emphasized that the search would be conducted in-house, without the aid of an outside consulting agency.

Barclay said that resumes for the position would be reviewed in September and interviews conducted in October, with the goal of making an offer by Jan 1, 2022.

President John Masterson will hand off the baton to his successor on July 1, 2022, after serving as president since 1992.

The college currently has no COVID-19 cases and no quarantines.

In order to keep that good track record, trustees are keeping ACC’s mask mandate in effect.

All other COVID procedures will remain as they were  before Republican state legislators blocked Gov. Laura Kelly from renewing her disaster declaration at the end of March.

Masterson also addressed the question about whether ACC would require students to be vaccinated in order to return in fall.

He said that students were certainly strongly encouraged, but “nobody has to.”

Quite a few students and staff have been vaccinated through various clinics, on- and off-campus. At least 108 students/staff were vaccinated through the college’s pop-up clinic.

Masterson emphasized that “the more of us who are protected … the more students that are protected … will help us get nearer to normal in the fall.”

As of now, ACC is planning to hold all onsite fall classes in the traditional format.

Lisse Regehr, CEO Thrive Allen County, visited with trustees about the new trail to be constructed around the college.

Some of those most excited about the project pointed to its benefit in helping the ACC cross country team to train, and in providing a place for folks to walk during their lunch breaks.

Regehr noted the goal is to eventually connect trails at the college, hospital and elsewhere to form one giant network across Iola.
