1 The Iola Teen Center opened last week in the old bus depot at 224 S. Washington. Phil Ebert is the centers director.
2 The Iola Municipal Stadium in Everett Shepherd Park is getting a facelift this summer. The old ticket booth walls are being removed and a new cement ticket and concession area will be built in its place. Other projects include revamping the Mustang dressing room and visitors dressing room as well as renovating the bathroom facilities. All the board seats in the stadium and the fence, from the stadium to the new community building, will be replaced.

Toby McCammon, an Iola native, who has coached the Allen County Community College womens basketball team for the past two years, has been hired as head coach of the womens team at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park.
6 Arlen Turk Cox is the new owner of the Iola IGA Super Market. He purchased the store from Chuck Readinger on June 30. Readinger had owned the store for six years and has accepted a position with the Fleming Co., a wholesale grocery company in Oklahoma City.
8 Dr. Doug Donnelly has joined Dr. Ellis Potter in the practice of Optometry at 424 N. Washington. He is a native of Independence, and a graduate of Kansas State University and the University of Houston College of Optometry.
9 Wilber M. Joe Earl, who was in the grocery business for 40 years, died Friday at Allen County Hospital. He was 74 years old. Earl owned and operated Self-Service Grocery in Iola and later worked as a salesman for Thomas Fruit Co. of Joplin. He came to Iola in 1927.
16 Willis Miller has been appointed postmaster at Colony, effective today.
