The deep wartime population slumps for Iola and Allen County have at last been wiped out. Iola is back to a population of 7,341 on county census records and the county lists 18,696 residents for its official 1948 report. Iola gained 307 residents the past year and shows a recovery of 1,229 since the low of 6,112 registered in 1943. The countys gain since 1943 is 1,263.
