HUMBOLDT — For the 60th year the story of the Bible will be portrayed with colorful floats and entries in Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. Biblesta Parade, unique among fall festivals.
Also headlining the day is former Humboldt resident Gary Larson, director of the Eastern Kansas Fellowship of Christian Athletes, who will speak during the evening portion of Biblesta.
Given the horrific incident in Las Vegas Sunday evening, Larson’s description of his presentation is fitting: “So much hate and anger in our country,” he said. “So many disasters and catastrophes. … it’s time to come together and step out of our church buildings and reach out to those who are hurting. Our country needs Jesus.”
Music and prayer will be a part of the evening get-together, for which Larson encourages “all area churches to join with us and bring your congregations to help us not only unite our young people, but unite us all.
“Help us turn this country in a new direction,” he said.
Larson’s appearance is just part of a full day of Christian-based activities.
A 5-kilometer walk and “Run for the Son” will occur early Saturday and gospel music entertainment will fill the air with spiritual refrains through much of the day.
Kenny Presley, Branson, Mo., Kristi Miller, Berea, Ken., Redemption’s Call, a men’s group from Parsons, Marsha Sue Mitchell, El Dorado, Ark., and Marlene Pelt, Roland, Okla., will provide free entertainment.
A number of vendors will provide fare during the day, and the free bean feed will be in the southwest corner of the square in late afternoon.
