The Apollo 11 landed on the moon July, 20, 1969. The three-part spacecraft was launched by a Saturn V rocket from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on July 16, 1969. Crew included Commander Neil Armstrong, lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin and command module pilot Michael Colllins. Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon, followed 19 minutes later by Aldrin. They spent a total of 21 hours, 31 minutes on the moon’s surface and collected lunar material to bring back to Earth. Collins flew the command module Columbia alone in lunar orbit as he waited for the returning lunar module. They returned to Earth July 24, 1969. Apollo 17 was the final manned mission to the moon, in December 1972.
