Erin Monfort, daughter of Darrell and Kathleen Monfort of Iola, was married to Elijah Nelson, son of Jay and Barbara Nelson of Manhattan, on the morning of Nov. 27, 2010, in the Strecker-Nelson Art Gallery on Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan. Performing the ceremony was the groom’s father, Jay Nelson.
The couple met during the summer of 2010 when she visited a friend in Manhattan. On the morning of the ceremony, the couple re-enacted their first date by sharing a pre-wedding breakfast at the Chef Café in downtown Manhattan.
The ceremony was a small gathering of the couple’s immediate family followed by a personal potluck style reception in the art gallery. The bride is the granddaughter of Ruth Hangen, Iola.
The bridal party consisted of the bride’s two brothers, Roy Monfort, Herndon, Va., and Andrew Monfort, Negley, Ohio, and her sister, Anne-Louise Monfort, Kansas City, Mo. The groom was attended by Alice Hudson of Lawrence.
Ms. Monfort-Nelson holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in textile design from the University of Kansas and is pursuing a master of science degree in apparel and textile design with a focus on sustainable and ethical design from Kansas State University. Mr. Monfort-Nelson holds a bachelor of fine arts in printmaking and painting from the Art Institute of Fort Worth, Texas. He is employed by Kaw Valley Greenhouses of Manhattan.
