The Iola United Methodist Women met Jan. 24.
Gerry Uphoff noted the call to prayer and self-denial offering will go toward Building a Thriving Generation of Children and Youth Worldwide. Members suggested skipping at least one meal a week, and donating money toward the mission ministry.
The Rev. Jocelyn Tupper gave the program on reading as a study opportunity that leads to action to encourage critical thinking. Suggested books run the gamut of spiritual growth. Social action genres are available on the United Methodist Women website and the Iola Public Library can obtain most of the books upon request.
Following the reading of the groups purpose to open the meeting, Donna Grigsby shared the response moment on AIDS in African pediatrics.
The group enjoyed refreshments provided by Donna Beebe, Donna Grigsby, and Linda Johnson.
Women and girls are invited to the next meeting, at 6 p.m. Thursday at Calvary United methodist Church.
