Spring is approaching — yes, really — which means the threat of severe weather soon will be upon our neck of the woods.

March 5 is the designated day for the statewide tornado drill. All outdoor storm sirens will be tested that day at 10 a.m., weather permitting. The FCC has slotted March 7 as a backup day.

In addition, the National Weather Service will offer its annual Storm Fury On The Plains spotter training session from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. March 11 at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center.

Attendees will learn storm spotting basics and safety from professionals through pictures and videos.

This free event, hosted by the Allen County Department of Emergency Management, is open to anyone with an interest in severe weather. All ages are welcome.
