Program geared for small businesses

An eight-week course is dedicated to help small business owners ready to grow their operations.

The Growing Rural Business Entrepreneurial Certificate Program is offered for Allen and Neosho County Sept. 19 through Nov. 14. 

Sessions run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Thursday. Sessions 1 through 4 will be at Chanute City Hall. Sessions 5-8 will be at Allen Community College.

Participants will receive comprehensive instruction in the finer points of growing a thriving rural business.

All classes are taught in person by Wichita State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, which is partnering with Allen County E-Community, Grow Neosho County and other small business groups.

Attending the eight-week course costs $250, although those who register by Thursday qualify for a $50 early bird discount.

Each week has its own theme.

— Sept. 19: Entrepreneurial mindset for small businesses, assessing one’s mindset, and building a business concept statement and vision.

— Sept. 26: Customer discovery, and the roadmap to a successful marketing plan.

— Oct. 3: Marketing and the power of telling your story.

— Oct. 10: Basic sales techniques and practices for selling.

— Oct. 17: Creating value for your customers.

— Oct. 24: Practical legal issues.

— Nov. 7: Keeping a financial focus.

— Nov. 14: Keeping it all together and developing an effective niche strategy.
