Two arrested after vehicle found in river

Two suspects were arrested after officers were called Monday to investigate a vehicle parked in the Neosho River.

Jeremiah Heuton, 39, Liberty Hills, Texas, was booked into Allen County Jail on suspicion of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia. Katrina G. Kelley, 40, Wichita, was arrested for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute the drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Other drug-related charges may be filed later by the Allen County attorney’s office.

Allen County Sheriff Anthony Maness said deputies were dispatched to the scene after somebody spotted the truck parked in the river, south of the Neosho River Bridge on U.S. 54.

“There are a couple of spots that have a shallow enough entry to get to the water,” Maness said. “They weren’t fishing, and they weren’t just driving around. They were just hanging out when we made contact with them.”

Iola police officers assisted with the investigation, Maness said.

Arrests reported

Paul R. Ard, 55, rural Elsmore, was arrested March 28 for suspicion of domestic battery after sheriff’s deputies were called to 3810 Florida Rd.

In a separate incident that day, Jeremiah J. Zamarripa, 46, Great Bend, was arrested on a probation revocation warrant stemming from a possession of methamphetamine charge.

Theft reported

Ronald Doeden told sheriff’s deputies Sunday he was a victim of financial and property theft. A suspect was identified.

Deer hit

Leah Carman told deputies she struck a deer about three miles east of Piqua on U.S. 54 Saturday. Carman, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
