Chase leads to arrests

Chad M. Church, 54, Moran, is one of two people in custody after authorities said he led them on a chase through three neighboring counties Wednesday.

The incident began Wednesday afternoon when a sheriff’s deputy spotted Church driving a  2006 Grand Prix along U.S. 54 in rural Bourbon County.

Deputies said Church had an active arrest warrant.

He ignored orders to pull over, however, and led pursuing officers on a chase into Linn County and then Anderson County near Kincaid.

The pursuit exceeded speeds of 70 mph on the county roads, the Anderson County Sheriff’s office reported, as deputies there and officers within Garnett Police Department joined the pursuit.

The chase ended when the car failed to negotiate a sharp turn at the intersection of SE 500 Road and SE Tennessee Road, about a mile northwest of Kincaid. The car left the roadway and got stuck in the field.

Officers took Church and a passenger, Timothy R. Dawdy, 68, Blue Mound, into custody without further incident.

Church faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, burglary and theft, Bourbon County deputies said.

Dawdy faces charges of interfering with law enforcement, possession of illegal opiates or narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Arrests reported

Iola police officers arrested Toby Sander Tuesday in the 1600 block of East Carpenter Street for suspicion of criminal damage to property in a domestic setting and possession of marijuana.

On Monday, Joann Kaufman was arrested east of Moran for suspected driving while intoxicated after officers fielded a report of a reckless driver in the 100 block of South Kentucky Street in Iola.
