Iola Public Library has several programs for adults during November.
Susan Booth of Booth/McIntosh Insurance will discuss What is Life Insurance at 7 p.m. Nov. 7. Booth will detail the importance of life insurance and explain the different types.
Empathy Building: A Parents Guide is at 6 p.m. Nov. 14. Donita Garner, Child Advocacy Center Coordinator of Hope Unlimited, will speak on empathy, why its important, and how it can be fostered.
The November Pinterest Party is at 6 p.m. Nov. 18. Participants will paint a holiday red Christmas truck. The class is limited to 25 people with pre-registration and $3 fee due by Nov. 15.
LaHarpe Telephone is at 7 p.m. Nov. 19. Owned by the Harry Lee family since 1950, LaHarpe Telephone is a unique chapter in local history. From rusty wire strung on trees to fiber optics and WiFi, the company has brought rural communication a long way. In the beginning, Mrs. Violet Lee served the party lines at the switchboard in the front room, as well as filling in as lineman. Son Harry Lee, Jr. tells the story.
The public is also reminded about the two Iola Reads programs.
Jennifer Nielsen, author of the Iola Reads book A Night Divided will speak in the Creitz Recital Hall of the Bowlus Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The book concerns the construciton of the Berlin Wall. Attendees can meet Nielsen, hear about how she came to write the book, and get a book signed.
Eyewitness to the Fall is at 7 p.m. Nov. 12. In real life, Iolan Carl Slaugh was there when the wall was opened. He tells about his familys experience.
