TOPEKA Humboldts Monarch Cement Company was among the honorees Thursday at a Community Health Promotion Summit in Manhattan.
Monarch received the 2019 Organizational Health Champion award, presented by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and Candice McField of the Governors Council on Fitness.
In a news release detailing the honor, KDHE cited Monarchs emphasis on its employees overall health, with an on-site clinic for employees and their dependents. The clinic offers basic labs, medications and immunizations at no cost, with more than 86 percent of the employees using the clinic in some capacity.
Monarch also has been a WorkWell Kansas worksite since 2017, with a primary focus on physical activity. Each employee receives training on proper stretching, and the company has a designated walking path in the corporate office.
The news release also cited interest among Monarch employees in helping Humboldt get pickleball playing venues established in Humboldt.
Other honorees included Jody Hoener of Fort Scott, a grant coordinator for the Pathways to a Healthy Kansas, and serves as Bourbon Countys economic development director.
