The Iola Public Library starts off the new year with a handful of programs for adults.

Those who play bridge usually consider it the greatest card game of all. This winter, anyone interested has the chance to learn the game at the library at “Learn to Play Bridge!”

The class will meet on Thursday evenings at 7 o’clock, from Jan. 9 through Feb. 27. Mary Ann Dvorachek, Mary Kay Heard and other long-time bridge players will teach how to play the game.

Because the game can’t be learned in one session, attendees should plan on coming to all sessions if possible. Registration is required.

The January Pinterest Party is at 6 p.m. Jan. 20. Participants will make an entryway key holder/organizer. The class is limited to 25 people. Pre-registration and fee of $3 are required by Jan. 17.

Author David French, who attended Iola and Marmaton Valley schools, will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 to discuss “The Last Hug: A Storm Is Coming.”

The book is a real life story of the author. After a message of overcoming loss, it moves into an account of his near-fatal accident falling head first from a ladder, and his experience since then. French will tell about his experience writing the book, and will sign copies.

French works at USD 473 in Osawatomie and was twice a Kansas Teacher of the Year.
